Artist Statement

Natalie Bremers’ works revolve around environmental concepts. Themes ranging from human involvement, like waste and pollution; to landscapes that seem to have little evidence of human. Her most recent concerns are geared around climate change, how it is impacting the land that she loves, and the somberness that comes with its absence and her inability to experience it. Bremers enjoys exploring different medium within painting, photography, and sculpture; in order to investigate the different presence each one has on the viewer. Utilizing forms, linear qualities, and textures found in environments, she is inspired by the land and places an emphasis on mark making. Her work often shares an abstracted view of data or landscapes, with drips of paint alluding to the passage of time, melting, and deterioration. Bremers’ works collectively have the simplicity and emotional presence of poetry, with the subdued and quiet voice of her own.
